Alumni Panel Discussion: “How Organisations can benefit from Reputation Management”
Reputations matter! Positive impressions about an organisation can decrease transaction costs substantially and increase the
emotional appeal of the firm to customers, employees, investors, etc., while negative impressions can do exactly
the opposite. The most admired companies in the world appear to be able to distinguish themselves from the
crowd by excellent performance and expressive messaging, creating appreciation for the achievements of the
organisation. The real top performers in reputation however, take it one step further than the old
'be good and tell it' paradigm from public relations. Highly reputed firms appear to be able to anticipate on
crucial developments in the social context in such a way that they develop actions increasing their legitimacy
and distinctiveness among crucial external stakeholders they depend upon. An excellent example comes from a
US pharmaceutical company which has solved the lack of nurses in the USA in two years time by a range
of investments in education as well as by promoting an advertising campaign in which nurses are shown
'heroes that 'Dare to Care’'.
At CEMS Alumni Panel discussion during the Annual CEMS event on Saturday 4 December in Rotterdam,
Cees van Riel,
Professor of Corporate Communication at RSM, will present his research and consultancy experience about this
topic together with representatives of leading business firms.
His findings are contrasted with views from the corporate world. The two panelists, Klaske de Jonge, (Director Corporate Affairs at Vodafone NL, former Director of the Consumer Association of The Netherlands)
and Willy van Oorschot (Director Corporate Communication at Cosun) are uniquely placed to provide fresh insights.
Join us in learning more about the key
principles of reputation management at the Alumni Panel Discussion on Woudestein Campus.
Special attention will be paid to current events in e.g. the financial sector and the role of (social) media.

At the Cruise Terminal we will serve you a buffet dinner with the stunning skyline of Rotterdam in the background.
For those who have decided not to come to the dinner at the Cruise Terminal, the organisation has compiled a list of 6 restaurants in the surroundings of the Cruise Terminal and other prime locations in Rotterdam where participants can go for dinner before joining us at the party in the evening.
